 And it goes to the Gentleman in the Blue.

" And we have Lot number .... 42. Number 42 out into the pen please."
The announcer's voice rang through his microphone, his brown mustache wriggling with every word and his brow furrowed in the usual enthusiastic auctioner's look. " A beautiful chestnut mare. Right from the pure wild. A very fast runner, I must say, and quite spirited, but our vets say she should be easy to tame. Starting at 400. Do I have 450?" His mustache moved some more. Watching this under some fallen strands of jet black hair, Rave Wiessina's blue eyes glittered coldly. She hated the way they always had to be wild, taken away from what they had been born to do. Wash over the long plains of wilderness in sweeping strides of a smooth gallop. Peering out from her long, dark lashes Rave managed to smile a bit, revealing some of her gently tanned skin. She smiled because the mare, obviously was wild, and the life she had once led was not going to end with some over-professional trainer.
The horse batted it's long, brown lashes over her dark eyes and reared up, the perfect muscles in her hind legs and quaters rippling with ease under her smooth, light pelt that was the color of coffee with too much milk in it. Her forelock hung boldly and messily in her long, slender face, and followed were her wild mane, and tail. She charged a fence, shortcuted around the fence with ease, and kicked up some dirt from her crazy bucking. Her eyes carried the glint of a long-lived wild animal, and the pen was already full of scattered, deep hoofprints and long slidings of the dirt. Rave could almost smell the wilderness of her shaggy coat. But that would be gone soon, once they started to trim her for the competitions. If was as if Rave was there herself, had always been.
" 900... to the gentleman in the blue. Do I see 1,ooo?" It broke her thoughts. Beside her, a slim, tall man nudged Rave, his leaf-green eyes twinkling. " How 'bout it, honey? You'll like her." Her dad. Accountant, rich, and desperate to buy Rave a horse. " No, dad. I already told you I don't want one right now." Rave replied impatiently. She looked around, for someone her age, maybe that she could talk to.

ooc - this is set in Tasmania, Australia. Its a long way to bring a horse from Chincoteague. Its said in the rules where this is - so please change it.

Jackie was watching the scene fold out, before her right from the beginning. The starting point was gathered with eager buyers, believing that this would be the land of the century – the turning point in a long line of, well, duds. Then it would turn to, a little disappointment at the first glance of the horse, but still a little hope would remain – after all, looks could be deceiving. By the time the scrawny, wild creature got half way round the corral, it was only the kind ones who still remained eager. What did they expect in Wild Horse sales. This was after all the fresh batch from WHW. As everyone knew, Wild Horse Watch was running out of room – fast. The fairytales had ended, and spellbound children were growing up into businessmen. People in general were losing interest in the wild horse spirit, and now, in the drought, farmers were considering them parasites and vermin. WHW knew that they had no use, they just didn’t want to admit it.

And now the distraught equine screamed and called for her friends left behind, streams of dust flying like a locust swarm up into the air and onto the audience. Similar to a pinto, but the colour difference was far too vague. It looked like she was wearing a faded t-shirt, losing colour after years in the sun. Years of living, where she belonged. Convincing the WHW to close would be like convincing the sun to eternally set. No one wanted to do it, because it could not be done, and you could not do without it. Without the WHW, the brumby would become over populated, the culling would begin again, and the whole of Australia would have taken a step back. Jackie knew that they needed WHW, but the WHW was also what was bringing them down.

Glancing left, she saw a girl with a familiar air about her. After a moments thought, she knew she was from Ode, and wondered if she should go talk to her. Then she remembered Amitee would be here any minute. She had come for a look, and offered Jackie and a few other students to come and get the atmosphere of the Auction Yards. So far, it’d been nothing special. For the other students it’d been a real treat – they’d never seen an auction take place before. As for Jackie, it was a site too familiar. Not that she wasn’t grateful – she was glad she had come, but she hadn’t entirely enjoyed herself. Sighing, she stood up and walked over to the girl. “Hey,” came the automatic greeting, “I’m Jackie, from Ode. You’re Rave… right?” If she had just walked up to some random, Jackie would kill herself. However, this could be the chance for a new friend.

Rave's smile dissapeared almost immediately as her dad called out. " 1,200." " Dad! I already said I dont' want it." She called through gritted teeth, eyes flashing with annoyance. But her dad ignored her. Rave hoped that this was the highest he was willing to go, and it turned out it was. The mare went to the highest bid, 1,400. She sighed with relief, and brushed back a few strands of fallen hair back into her ponytail, dangling over her shoulderblades. Just before they were going to let out the following horse, a small " Hey," Came from behind her. Turning around, she spied Jackie, a girl from Ode that she had seen not many days before. " Oh, Hi. Yes, I'm Rave. Jackie, right?" She replied, easy-going and comfortable with others as Rave always is.

o0c|| I changed it. :]
